Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Review by 3G.co.uk

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic Review on 18th December, 2007

Unveiled in September at Nokia's lavish Go Play event, the new Nokia XpressMusic phones looked great. The 5310 is a candybar and the 5610 is a slider phone, available in either red or blue trim, with the front fascia dominated by an interesting slider switch.

Spec-wise, the Nokia 5610 XpressMusic blows its sibling out of the water (see the 5310 review on page 18). A 3.2-megapixel camera (compared with the 5310's two megapixels), all-important 3G capabilities, as well as the promise of impressive music qualities had us waiting in anticipation for the handset to land at 3G. Unfortunately, when we got the 5610 in our hands we were slightly disappointed.

Slide away

As well as the slider switch, the front of the 5610 sports two soft keys, a call button and an end call button, which surround the phone's media controls. While not as clearly labelled as the 5310's dedicated media keys, the D-pad and soft keys illuminate when in use, which is a nice touch. The slider switch on the front of the device also acts as a shortcut to the FM radio and media player. Slide it to the right for the radio or slide it to the left and you'll find the media player. While this works perfectly well, it's surprising that Nokia didn't choose to do more with this feature. For example, the slider switch could be used to navigate through playlists.

Samsung F250 Slider

Samsung have announced the F250, another new music slider phone. The F250 places itself in the middle of the Samsung music range.

However, that doesnt mean the Samsung isn't worth a look as it looks stunning with its metallic keypad and mirror-finnished facia.

The phone has rather basic features but , for the price-range Samsung are aiming at. they are more than adequate. The features include the obvious music player with built in FM radio , Micro SD capabilities (up to 2gb) , Stereo Bluetooth capability and a 1.3 MegaPixel Camera with zoom.

The Samsung F250 is expected in the beginning of 2008 at around 180 EUR (or 128 Pound).

Samsung G800 Review by 3G.co.uk

Samsung's G800 has shaken up the camera phone market by bringing 3x optical zoom and five megapixels to the party.

Is this the death knell for the digital camera? When Samsung launched the G600 in the summer, a lot was made of the handset's five-megapixel camera prowess.

In truth, while we loved the handset for its slim good looks and user appeal, the camera could be described as good rather than great, despite the high resolution of the resulting shots. However, Samsung's latest stab at a five-megapixel camera phone, the G800, is a different beast altogether. For a start, Samsung has not attempted to retain a slim chassis; but, for the extra girth and weight, you get a far better camera.

Samsung G800 design
In terms of length and height, the Samsung G800 is not a big phone. Its footprint is actually almost exactly the same as the hugely popular Samsung U600. However, it is a lot thicker. The thickness on the Samsung G800 spec sheet is 18.8mm, but if you include the lens cover, the real thickness should be about 20.2mm. However, the reason the G800 is thicker than your average phone is because it houses a top camera with 3x optical zoom, which we'll tell you more about in a moment.

Nokia N95 8GB Review by 3G.co.uk

We know the bus analogy is an old cliché, but you wait ages for Nokia to come up with an 8GB phone and then it comes up with two, with the N81 8GB and the N95 8GB appearing mischievously at the same time. The N95 8GB is the better featured of the pair, and, if we were making a straight choice between them, it is the one we would go for.

It's also the new, improved version of the hugely popular N95. And it is a definite improvement on the original. While the first N95 arrived in silver the N95 8GB is finished in a much smarter black.

The new-look handset also manages to fit in a significantly larger display, without adding a mm to the phone's footprint. This does mean that there's less room for the soft keys at the bottom, but this doesn't detract a jot from the phone's usability.

The most obvious new addition is, of course, the bumper new memory. And, while it can't compete with top-end iPods and the like, 8GB of in-built memory is plenty for storing a decade's worth of music, photos, videos, or whatever else you wish to carry with you on this multimedia powerhouse.

Nokia 6500 Classic Review by 3G.co.uk

There are two Nokia 6500 handsets. After last month's review of the Slide, we've now got our hands on the sleeker, more slimline Classic. Our review of the Nokia 6500 Slide is here click here

As anyone who read last month's review of the Slide will know, the Nokia 6500 range share little in common beyond the fact that they're both well designed, very well put together handsets, with a similar price tag.. The candy bar style Classic is the slimmer of the two, so, you could argue, the more aesthetically appealing.

Unique design

Until now, Nokia has tended to shy away from ultra-slim handsets. But, the Nokia 6500 Classic remedies that by measuring just 9.5mm thin. Available in either black or bronze, both colours look stunning.

Although svelte, we were surprised as to how solid and sturdy it feels. So it should, as it's crafted from anodized aluminium, which is one of the most durable, yet lightweight materials around. What's more, the handset is individually diamond-polished, meaning no Nokia 6500 Classic is exactly the same. To be honest, when comparing the two side by side, this may not appear obvious, but it's good knowing that your phone is an individual; a one off.

JCB Tough Phone Launched

JCB, the construction manufacture, has launched a mobile phone made by Sonin.

The phone is aimed at all people who have a tendency to work or play in situations where their phones are in high risk of damage (seen as JCB work in construction, builders are the obvious target market).

The phone is Shock resistant, Dust resistant, Water resistant, Drop resistant and can work under situations of extreme noise. To back up these claims the phone is offered with a 3 year warranty with no questions asked.

The phone is relatively primitive in terms of functionality, and does not feature 3G or any multimedia capabilities. The phone does however feature Bluetooth, Tri-Band, Push to talk and Built in dual speakers.

We think the phone will have a strong appeal to the people who need a durable phone and can see it selling well.

The Phone is available now from Phones4u.

Street Fighter 2 Mobile Game Review

Street Fighter 2

You get to duff up a parade of 2D characters, each with their own special moves and fighting styles. In the arcade and on console, it relied on loads of buttons for you to carry off the different attacks and defences.

And that's the problem with this mobile version. It looks the part, and the characters you know and love are there. But the controls are just too fiddly on a handset, failing to walk the line between over-complexity, and dumbing them down to work. Playing this is ultimately a frustrating experience.
